What are the options and how do I choose?

Your prescription, whatever it is, can be made up in hundreds of differing lens types. Prices could vary from as little as £50 to as much as £600. If you want the cheapest we can give you a quote. If you want good value this will be a different price. If you want the best this will cost more again.

We always offer you three options and explain the differences and leave you to choose the one best suited to your needs and your pocket.

By Brand?

As an independent optician we can offer lenses from any supplier. Whether you want the security of quality from experienced lens makers such as Zeiss, Nikon, Hoya, Rodenstock or the less expensive equivalents from smaller lens makers, we can advise you of your options and their relative merits.

By Appearance?

Your prescription, whatever it is, can be made in many different lens materials, using different curvatures and finished with different coatings. The aim is to find the lightest, thinnest, best-looking lens, best- value lens for you. We can demonstrate the benefits of the differing lens materials, curvatures and coatings.

The’best- lens’ will also depend upon the frame choice. Choosing the right lens for a given frame is both an art and a science, but once again we can explain and demonstrate the benefits of the options.

By Suitability?

A photochromic lens that changes its tint according to brightness may be perfect for casual use at weekends and on holidays, but far less suitable for your working environment. A thin lens might be right for best appearance but is it safe for your leisure or sports – or might a young child be at risk if they innocently grab them off your face as you cuddle them?

A standard varifocal lens might prove perfect for general office use, but tiring when used for more intensive or prolonged close work.
